Not proud to be French ?
Seen during Human Rights Watch Film festival in Lincoln Center a stricking documentary by Marie-Monique Robin named "Death squadrons: the French school".
I had already heard of those Argentinian opponents to the regime in the 70's, that were literally thrown in the sea from planes. Thousands and thousands of "subversive" terrorists disappeared, swallowed by the ocean after being tortured.
Well, the theoricists and teachers of those tortures, of this so-called war against subversion are the French. Yep, France, supporter of democracy and of human rights.
How can it be so?
In the steps of Algeria and Indochina wars, after the battle of Algiers lead by the French army against civilians, France had acquired a certain expertise in managing civilian rebellion. "Quadrillage", tortures, intelligence were then scrupulously taught to South american extreme-right dictators (Pinochet in Chile, Argentina, Brasil where mediatic Aussaresses was a French attache), US army officers, etc... The "Bigeard's shrimps" (Bigeard was one of my father's hero) was the name of the FLN Algerians thrown in Mediterranea during those dirty anti-terrorist procedures. Argentinian and Chilean dictatorships only reproduced what French army (and former OAS members) had taught. Under the eyes, approval and even support of French government. How disgusting.
